The Great Recession took a toll on many industries, with the downturn cutting a swath of growth and stability out of national, state and local economies. One of the hardest hit sectors in the North Bay was the business of building. In Marin, Sonoma and Napa counties, building usually employs thousands of construction workers along with tradespeople such as plumbers, painters, cement specialists, heating/cooling experts and more. A downturn in construction projects doesn’t just affect the people swinging hammers, it also impacts developers, architects, mortgage brokers, banks, land surveyors and insurance companies.

Keith Woods is the Chief Executive Officer of the North Coast Builders Exchange, headquartered in Santa Rosa, a position he’s held since 2000.  The 1200-member organization represents contractors and construction-related firms in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino and Napa counties.

A native of San Carlos, Keith majored in Journalism at Fresno State University and is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management held at the University of Santa Clara.

His professional experience includes 48 years of organizational management work, including staff and executive positions at the San Francisco, San Jose, and San Antonio chambers of Commerce.  He also served as President & CEO of the Santa Rosa Chamber from 1987-2000

Keith has spoken to more than 900 audiences in 48 states, focusing on customer service, leadership training, and organizational development.  In 1999, on behalf of the U.S. State Department, he travelled to Moscow to conduct management and customer service training to Russian business and Chamber of Commerce executives.

Keith is the father of 31-year old twins, Kevin and Kelly.  In addition, he says he’s just an all-around good guy who thinks Rotarians are terrific people who don’t get enough credit for all the great things they do in the community.
